If you speak to any outdoor or BBQ cook and ask them what their favorite type of grill is, no doubt they will tell you the Kettle Grill. There are many advantages to cooking on a kettle grill so let’s see why this is a favorite among experienced outdoor chefs.
First off, the kettle grill comes in many different sizes which makes it very versatile. If you’re interested in simply cooking for a small family then the smallest of kettle grills will certainly do the job. If cooking for mass amounts of people is your preference or you like to cook large pieces of meat like turkeys, chickens or brisket then the largest of kettle grills will definitely meet your needs. So depending on how you like to cook and for how many people, a kettle grill’s size can match just about any type or quantity of cooking you need. You certainly cannot do that with your run-of-the-mill gas grill, that’s for sure.
Another great feature is the grill’s cover. The domed cover is not only extremely safe but it also provides room for larger meets when you’re doing some BBQ and it provides an environment that helps retain heat providing more even cooking. The cover comes with a grill for a reason so next time you throw some steaks or chicken on the grill, keep the lid on and let the kettle do its job.
The only disadvantage we hear about with this grill is that some folks do not like that the coals are a fixed distance from the cooking grid. Some would prefer to have an adjustable firebox of some sort so you can change the distance from the hot coals to the meat. I don’t see this as a huge problem though as many times the hot coals can be too close to the food and I think kettle grills provide just enough distance where the food isn’t getting burned or overly smoked. Small problem in my eyes but with enough experience of placing coals in the right spot, you won’t find it a problem either.
So the next time you’re our looking for a new grill, consider the kettle grill as an alternative to those new shiny gas grills. You’ll be much happier with the flavor of your foods and don’t be surprised if the neighbors start showing up when the swirl of BBQ smoke rises from your backyard!
