Best Air Vent Configuration For My Outdoor Bbq Grill?
I have your typical outdoor coal burning bbq grill (a Weber). im still learning the art of bbq-ing. this may seem like a stupid question but I have yet to figure out how i should open/close the vents on the lid and under the grill when I am bbq-ing. i.e. lid vents open + bottom vents closed, both open, both closed, bottom open + lid closed?

Bill gabve you some good answers. In addition always cook with the lid down. Webers are designed to cook with the lid on or in the down position.
I have 3 Weber grills and always start with the vents open and adjust accordingly, depending on what I’m preparing.

All open to light. The bottom vents are to let oxygen in to help keep fire hot. You can regulate air-flow with the vents in the top. If you leave these open the fire will burn out faster. If you want something to cook slowly you almost close the vents on the top after coals are hot. If you close both you can smother fire.
