Can I Use Charcoal In A Propane Grill?
I imagine I’ll get some “Why?”s. I was given a propane grill with an empty tank, and I haven’t filled it. I’ll be grilling for more people than my Weber can handle. What will happen if I light up some charcoal in there? It’s a Ducane, for what it’s worth.

Sure.
Disconnect the propane canister and put it somewhere well away from the grill.
The grill is designed to take the heat, so you can. HOWEVER, remember that you’ll be creating ash that will get down in the lava rocks - you’ll want to clean the grill up well before going back to using gas.

I wouldn’t, unless I could find a metal tray of some sort to set the charcoal on, protecting the gas pipes. Ash and crud getting in them will ruin it. And dude, once you get used to a gas grill, you will NEVER go back to charcoal, so don’t ruin it for yourself!
No you can’t.
Either get some propane or cope with the Weber.
The plates could warp, you will probably clog the gas jets, and may even compromise the tubing to the jets.
yes but to be safe take out the propane and the hoses that could end bad if there is some residual propane but it should be safe. Also clean it thoroughly afterward to be safe.
it will work. some of the ashes might plug up the holes on the burning unit, but a couple wacks with a pair of tongs would clean it up. should be fine. i would like mine medium rare, thanks.
If you fill it with charcoal, you will probably have one horribly ruined propane grill. You will ruin the stainless steel or painted surface you grill on and your grill will probably look awful.
Sure you can!!
yes but it might be messy!
