If you speak to any outdoor or BBQ cook and ask them what their favorite type of grill is, no doubt they will tell you the Kettle Grill. There are many advantages to cooking on a kettle grill so let’s see why this is a favorite among experienced outdoor chefs.

First off, the kettle grill comes in many different sizes which makes it very versatile. If you’re interested in simply cooking for a small family then the smallest of kettle grills will certainly do the job. If cooking for mass amounts of people is your preference or you like to cook large pieces of meat like turkeys, chickens or brisket then the largest of kettle grills will definitely meet your needs. So depending on how you like to cook and for how many people, a kettle grill’s size can match just about any type or quantity of cooking you need. You certainly cannot do that with your run-of-the-mill gas grill, that’s for sure.

Another great feature is the grill’s cover. The domed cover is not only extremely safe but it also provides room for larger meets when you’re doing some BBQ and it provides an environment that helps retain heat providing more even cooking. The cover comes with a grill for a reason so next time you throw some steaks or chicken on the grill, keep the lid on and let the kettle do its job.

The only disadvantage we hear about with this grill is that some folks do not like that the coals are a fixed distance from the cooking grid. Some would prefer to have an adjustable firebox of some sort so you can change the distance from the hot coals to the meat. I don’t see this as a huge problem though as many times the hot coals can be too close to the food and I think kettle grills provide just enough distance where the food isn’t getting burned or overly smoked. Small problem in my eyes but with enough experience of placing coals in the right spot, you won’t find it a problem either.

So the next time you’re our looking for a new grill, consider the kettle grill as an alternative to those new shiny gas grills. You’ll be much happier with the flavor of your foods and don’t be surprised if the neighbors start showing up when the swirl of BBQ smoke rises from your backyard!

This is a good grill but it is taking a while to get familiar with it. The box is not as air tight as my previous Weber so the smoker is not as effective. But I learned to turn off the left burner and the smoker works much better. I love the sear unit and the rotisserie. I also use a round basket to cook meats indirectly with the rotisserie.

I’ve had three Weber grills this size and style. The other two are still going strong with friends. The first one is about 20 years old. The one I just replaced is 15 years old. I don’t think you can beat a Weber.

I do not like the stainless steel - it is impossible to keep clean. I would not buy SS if the 470 features were available on another Weber grill - the sear unit, the rotisserie and the smoker with its dedicated burner.

Delivery was great. They had a small van and backed in the driveway. The delivery man had it unloaded and ready to wheel anywhere. Assembly was easy once it was lifted from the delivery box - it takes two to lift out of the box.

Took me about 45 minutes to assemble at a leisurely pace. No problems, everything was straightforward. Grill does everything it is advertised to do. If this grill does not last 15 years, I will be disappointed.

Helpful hint: assemble the grill the day before your trash pickup because there is a lot of packaging material that goes in the recycling bin!

Shipped and received with no problems. In fact it came early. Spent a short afternoon putting it together (2 hours in no hurry), assembly was easy, written directions could be better, pictures helped a lot. Lit for the first time, temp got to 500 plus with no problems. Tested all burners including rotiserie and smoker box, all worked perfect.
Cooked my first pork roast indirect heat med 350-400 degrees. Also did green peppers mushroom and onions using direct heat per cooking instructions provided. All food turned out perfect. What flavor!!!
Will try cooking a couple of chickens next weekend, am positive it will turn out great tasting too.
I see now why people pay much more for a better BBQ. The cooking power, heat control and quality in this cookbox is well worth it. Like night and day from cheaper bbqs.
I know I will use this product quite a bit so I went out and bought two extra propane tanks so I do not run out of fuel. I assume with my weekend cooking I will go through a tank of propane a month is my guess.
I am extremely happy with my Weber Gold Series. I love the stainless steel cooking grates as well as the flavorizer bars on the bottom which are also stainless steel. And yes I got the match stick holder which attaches to the door with a chain. Cleaning is much easier then some of those other bbqs.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who loves to bbq and try various ways of cooking using direct and indirect heat. If you love bbqing you will love this Weber Summit Gold D6 Propane Gas Grill.

Weber 5790001 Summit Gold D6 Propane Gas Grill Specifications

Featuring durable, stainless steel construction and legendary Weber reliability, the Summit Gold line represents the peak of gas-grill performance, with the added attraction of a smoker box and rotisserie attachment for the serious outdoor chef. With an input of 57,600 BTUs per hour, this propane grill offers enough firepower to sear foods for true-grilled taste. Six rust-resistant stainless steel burners run the length of the cookbox for exceptionally even and powerful heating without hot or cold spots, while infinitely-adjustable burner valves lend the flexibility needed to cook with both direct and indirect heat. A spacious 902 inches of total cooking area provides enough room to cook for even the biggest groups, and includes a convenient warming rack and a warm-up basket for cooking easily-burned foods like fish or vegetables. A commercial-grade side burner cooks side dishes and sauces while meat grills, and a dedicated smoker burner heats a stainless steel box designed to hold wood chips for smoky “low-and-slow” barbecue-style cooking. The infrared rotisserie burner radiates even heat to meats placed on the stainless steel rotisserie attachment powered by a heavy-duty 110-volt motor. An electronic crossover ignition system lights all burners in succession with the push of a button.

The Summit Gold D6 comes loaded with highly-functional extras including a fixed commercial-grade thermometer, three sturdy tool holders, and a roomy enclosed storage area with stainless steel doors and a heavy-gauge steel bottom shelf. One removable and two swing-up work surfaces offer plenty of space to spread out sauces, marinades, utensils and other prep essentials. Plus, they’re made from granite-look Thermoset for maximum durability, heat and weather resistance, and ease of cleaning. Like all Weber gas grills, the Summit Gold also features heavy-duty stainless steel Flavorizer bars to eliminate flare-ups caused by lava rocks and ceramic briquets. Fats and juices hit the angled bars and sizzle away, adding delicious, smoky barbecue flavor instead of flames. A slide-out bottom tray funnels grease into a removable catch pan for quick and painless clean-up. The Summit Gold D6 is as durable, safe, and efficient as it is convenient. Its stainless steel hood features double-wall construction, adding a layer of insulation to trap heat and protect against unsightly discoloration no matter what the weather. Rugged, weather-resistant wheels are crack-proof in the most extreme temperatures and allow easy transport, while locking casters prevent the grill from rolling while you cook. Burners even have screens to keep spiders from spinning combustible webs inside. Best of all, ten fasteners are all that’s needed to put this grill together–meaning you’ll go from box to barbecue in less than 40 minutes. The Summit Gold D6 measures 68 inches wide, by 62-1/2 inches tall, by 34-1/2 inches deep. Backed with a limited lifetime warranty, this grill’s made in the USA. –Mary Park
