Charcoal briquets will burn longer than hardwood charcoal, but not as hot.
If the problem is that it doesn’t stay hot enough, use briquets, and use more of them than you’re currently using. Also, once all the charcoal is gray, keep the cover on but open the top and bottom vents just a little.
If the problem is that it’s just not hot enough, try using hardwood charcoal. It burns much hotter than briquets, but doesn’t last as long. If you have a chimney starter (the cylinder thingie), you can start one batch of hardwood charcoal, put it in the grill when it’s good and hot, then add some charcoal to it and mix it all up. Then start another batch in the cylinder right away. Start cooking, then when the second batch of charcol is ready, put it in the grill. You’ll need to have a way to lift the grate off the grill, of course, and someplace to set it down safely while you add the new charcoal.
Keet the cover on as long as possible. I’d get a metal cylinder to stack and ignite the charcoal so you get off to a hot start.
use small lava rocks along with the previous answer
