Shopping For A Gas Grill, Looking At Weber Brand. Please Advise?
Trying to choose between Weber’s 3 burner options — they have several models, with different BTU’s. There’s the 210, the 310, and one higher than that. They cost between $299 and $600. Could you please give me some advice? About how many btu’s are necessary for effective grilling, what is good enough, and what is overkill? Thanks.

Excellent answers here. Features and size of the grill that’s right for you are most important. For example, most grilling recipies for steaks, chops, etc. recommend grilling over a direct medium fire (350°F to 375°F), which is essentially the same regardless of the BTU output of the grill. It’s more a question of you becoming familiar with how to achieve this range of heat on your particular model of grill.
We’ve had various models of Weber grills over the years. If portability is a consideration for you, we’re having great fun and getting excellent results with our Weber Q.
Also, for grilling times you may find the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com helpful. Enter the details of the items you will be grilling and it will provide instructions for how to grill steaks, pork chops, boneless chicken breasts and the like to the doneness you desire. It also has grilling tips.
Enjoy your new grill!
I agree with dogzilla. All of the webers are good, my brother is a q-master and won’t use anything else. The different sizes are more about how you plan to use the grill, not about what will and won’t work.
If you’re a family of two and rarely entertain, you can probably live with the smaller one. If you’re a big family and the whole neighborhood is at your house every weekend, go for the big one - maybe two.
If your bbq style varies, think of it the way you’d think of buying a stock pot or skillet, you can always cook small in a big one, but you can’t cook big in a small one.
Best wishes and happy qing!
Any of them will do whatever you want them to do…..the main thing is the size of the cooking area. If you don’t plan on doing large things, then a smaller one is better…or vice versa.
The key thing to look for is on a gas grill is cast iron burners. Hopefully at least one of the models has them. Stainless steel burner plates need to replaced almost annually and will add to your cost in the long run.
Any of them will grill fine, it is just a matter of how much grilling space you need as far as BTUs.
