very good, but flimsy aluminum pot

The steel is solid. The lid covers the grill perfectly. The aluminum pot is of lesser quality than the gold 22.5 inch models. The aluminum part that holds the pot is thin and can be bent in all shapes and forms with little effort, but it serves its function. I probably would go with the cheaper silver model if I was to do it again. I do like that the very bottom of the grill is aluminum so it will not rust if water collects after I clean the grill. So far this weber has worked as desired. I like the portability of the 18.5 size. I can lift it easily after a cleaning and stick it in the garage. I can see I lifetime of delicious meals ahead of me. And this is made in the U.S.A. We can make good things here.
Excellent quality!

I always thought Weber products were overpriced. This is one of those products that "You get what you pay for, and you pay for what you get." Bottom shell was damaged in shipment. No problem. Called Weber and I had a free replacement in 5 days. A pleasure to deal with.

Pros: Ash catcher, Hinged cooking grate, air control, proper distance from coals(avoid burning), charcoal rails(optional), cover(optional)

Cons: None

I had considered the Weber Silver, but the Weber Gold had the Ash Catcher & Hinged Cooking Grate which are not available on the Silver model. These features were worth their weight in gold to me. Well worth the additional $$ difference.
Good grill, obscenely priced by Weber

Like all Weber kettle grills, this is a very good and durable grill.

However, when you consider that the only significant differences between this grill and the same Silver line grill are: 2X the price for the Gold line, an Al ash catcher on the Gold (that should come on the Silver, too), and the trap doors that allow you add more coals on the Gold w/o removing the cooking grate...what Weber charges for the two "improvements" is obscene. These cannot possably add more than $10 to their cost of production...doubling the price on the entire grill is...gouging.

The Gold 18-1/2" costs much more than the Silver 22" model as a result and the 22" is a much better buy as a result.

Think hard before you buy the 18-1/2" Gold vs. the 22" Silver.

Having said that, the Gold series ash catcher is a nice feature.
Perfect size for small family

This grill is the perfect size for a small family and a key reason I bought it is for the ash can that is attached below. I had the larger 22 inch Weber grill but the ash fell on a tray below and it was always a mess to clean up. This system is much simpler. It arrived in perfrect condition and was easy to assemble even thuough the directions were poorly written and illustrated.
My husband loves his new grill!

I purchased this grill for my husband's birthday, and he loves it.
It cooks much faster than the smaller Weber grill we have. My husband prefers cooking with charcoal--and will not own a gas grill. We have been Weber grill users for 44 years! Nothing better than a Weber!
Works Great!

Ideal for the smaller family or meals. Uses less charcoal. Collection can under the grill does a terrific job and it is easy to dispose of ashes when full. Easy to assembly and is fairly sturdy. Use the charcoal igniter can as lighter fluid is not recommended. Enjoy!
Perfect Bachelor Grill

This grill is a great performer. As a single guy who typically grills for one, the 18.5" surface provides enough room that I can cook several meals at once. There's plenty of room to do indirect grilling, and even indirect "beer can chicken" with the coals arranged in a circular fashion around a pie tin. If you're only cooking for one or two people, you don't need anything bigger.

The most innovative feature on this grill? The hinged side flaps on the grilling surface, which you can pull up with tongs to drop in more coals or wood. I use a lot of hickory, and when it comes to adding more smoke, being able to get directly at the coals without disturbing the food is a huge advantage. No more fumbling with insulated gloves trying to lift the whole grate up.

Assembly instructions really could have been better (actually there were no instructions, just one tiny drawing). I couldn't figure out how the ash collector connects to the rest of the components, there were metal tabs on mine which weren't depicted in the diagram, and bending them out of the way didn't help. So I left it off, I just empty the ashes onto the patio and rinse them into the yard. Not a huge inconvenience but it kept me from giving a 5-star review.

If you're the type who buys a $10 imported rust-magnet grill at Wally World each spring only to watch it rot all year long, break that cycle and get a Weber One-Touch.
Perfect size

Reviewer: Alan,
This is a great product. Made well and easy to assemble. It is perfect for two people that like to grill and go back to real charcoal flavor instead of the gas grills that don't get hot enough and fall apart in a year or two. Extremely happy!!!
easy clean up

It's worth the extra money to buy the gold weber- the cleanup is fast and easy.
Good product with poor shipping track record

I ordered 3 of these, one after the other, and all came with significant chips and scratches to either the bowl or the lid. I finally called Weber and they replaced the damaged parts directly. If buying this product I would buy it in a store, not on line.
